The school has two sites – Midfield (Primary) and Hayes (Secondary) – and provides education and support for 5-16 year olds who are at risk of being, or have been, permanently excluded from school.
Inspectors found students at the school to be ‘happy, respected and well prepared for their next steps in education and training.’
Executive head teacher, Neil Miller and the heads of the two schools, Julie Loizou and Rob Freeman, were praised for ‘leading by example’ and staff morale was found to be high.
The report also highlights that children feel safe and that good teaching boosts their confidence. Behaviour was noted as good, with students following rules and receiving a good quality of education.
Bromley Trust Academy is part of London South East Academies Trust, previously known as Bromley Educational Trust. The Trust is sponsored by London South East Colleges and offers Alternative and Specialist Provision for young people across the region.
Sam Parrett OBE, CEO of London South East Colleges and London South East Academies Trust says:
“I am delighted that our schools have been recognised as Good by Ofsted, with the success of our staff and students being highlighted.
“We took over Bromley Trust Academy* in 2014 as a sponsor-led academy conversion. Our team has turned the provision around and it is now offering young people who need additional support an excellent alternative to mainstream education.
“You can’t run successful Alternative Provision without good relations with local schools. We are therefore hugely grateful to Headteachers in the Borough for their ongoing faith, trust and support.
“My thanks also go to Neil Miller, Julie Loizou, Rob Freeman and their teams, who are working so tirelessly to make the school and its students a continuing success.”
Neil Miller, Executive Headteacher of Bromley Trust Academy, says:
“We have been working hard over the past three years to ensure we offer our students the very best education and support. We identify and remove barriers to learning and do our best to instil confidence and aspiration in our young people, as Ofsted has recognised.
“Many of our students return to mainstream education. In cases where this is not the best option for a child, we help them access specialist education to ensure they can reach their full potential and get the skills they need to gain meaningful employment.
“I am hugely grateful to all the staff and students at both schools. This excellent result is a team effort and we will continue to work to improve the outcomes of our students.”
